A little over a five hour drive from Mumbai, this place is a biodiversity hotspot with over 850 different flora and fauna in full bloom with numerous species of butterflies populating the fields annually during the months of August and September. It’s a great place for thrill seekers to indulge in some adventure sports like kayaking, valley crossing, zip lining, rappelling, trekking and fishing.īeauty and magic are two words that aptly describe the Kaas Plateau Reserve Forest. Another spot to visit when in Jawhar is the Dabhosa waterfall which is one of the highest waterfalls in Maharashtra, with about 300 feet in height, and is one of the few waterfalls which is perennial. This neoclassical-style palace was built by Raja Yashwant Rao Mukane and used to be a residential palace of the Mukne royal family. Jaivilas Palace is one of the prime attractions of Jawhar. This lesser known hill station was once ruled by the Munke dynasty during the British rule in India, now considered one of the few remaining tribal regions of Maharashtra. Unlike places like Matheran and Lonavala that have had a burst of commercialisation in the last few years, if you’re looking for a slightly more unexplored city, then try Jawhar. A little over a three hour drive from Mumbai lies one of the most unexplored cities in Palghar district of Maharashtra.
